Urinalysis

Everything pee

A complete urinalysis, start to finish: collect it, look at it, spin it, read it, and tie it back to the patient.

Educational draft for review. Always interpret with species, collection method, hydration status, medications and paired blood work.

A urinalysis has three parts that must be read together: the physical examination (color, clarity, specific gravity), the chemical examination (dipstick), and the sediment examination (microscopy). Any one alone misleads. Protein means nothing without specific gravity and sediment; azotemia cannot be localized without specific gravity collected before fluids.

Always pair it with serum chemistry when kidneys, glucose, liver or electrolytes are in question.
